«Семь» (англ. Seven) — психологический триллер Дэвида Финчера с элементами фильма ужасов и нео-нуара. Премьера состоялась 25 сентября 1995 года. В фильме показаны семь дней из жизни двух детективов, которые идут по следу серийного убийцы; каждому убийству соответствует один из смертных грехов. Стилизованная операторская работа Дариуса Хонджи основана на применении техники bleach bypass. Сюжет Детективы Сомерсет и Миллз расследуют дело о серийном убийце Джоне Доу, возомнившем себя орудием Господа и карающем за смертные грехи. Одержимый идеей наказания за «смертные грехи», он подвергает жертвы физическим и моральным страданиям, которые готовит с холодной расчетливостью. Длительные страдания заканчиваются смертью. Каждое наказание посвящено одному из семи грехов: «Чревоугодие», «Алчность», «Праздность», «Гордыня», «Похоть», «Зависть» и «Гнев». Изощрённый мучитель и убийца оставляет на месте преступления лишь название греха, который совершила жертва, а также хитроумную зацепку-головоломку, позволяющую найти следующую жертву. Впрочем, ближе к развязке фильма из-за успешной деятельности детективов он вынужден сменить тактику и сам сдается полицейским. В качестве жертв для двух последних грехов он назначает себя для «Зависти» и детектива Миллза для «Гнева». Джон Доу убивает беременную жену Миллза и присылает ему посылку с её головой. Не сумев совладать со своим гневом, детектив Миллз убивает безоружного и скованного наручниками спокойного, готового к смерти преступника, чем завершает его чудовищный план, поскольку Миллза арестовывают за убийство подозреваемого, наказав его за гнев. Джон Доу считает свою деятельность проповедью, призванной преподать горожанам урок. Он тщательно документирует все свои действия, годами готовит головоломные убийства-пытки, скрупулёзно заметает следы (даже срезает себе кожу с подушечек пальцев, чтобы не оставлять отпечатков).
